this post has music... hit play
I'm completely moved, hopeful, grateful.
We went to the election night spaghetti dinner at J's school and came home to watch results. As I put K to sleep, things were looking good but not definitive. And then, out of nowhere, the said "Ohio goes to Obama," and I knew that had to be it.
The big boys wandered in and out as Evan and I watched the rest in the living room. At one point, after he'd clearly won, we were talking with Jeremiah and it became clear that the racial breakthrough was a total afterthought for him. In this village, in his lifetime, racism will be so diminished compared with my childhood experience. What a beautiful thing.
Of course, it also means he must have thought I was weeping all night just because the guy I wanted won the election. This is, obviously, not just any election. On the other hand, the racial barriers broken are secondary, in a way. The real miracle of this election is the coming of a leader I believe we can truly trust, who is intelligent and inspiring.
